Suggestion: Basketball 2v2 Rotation Cup Empty
PostSubject: Suggestion: Basketball 2v2 Rotation Cup   Suggestion: Basketball 2v2 Rotation Cup EmptyFri Jan 04, 2013 12:07 pm

I was asked by Koxx to bring up some interesting ideas for new formats of competitions, so here is the first of them.

In this proposed format of competition, players will register individually (not as a team) and will represent themselves in the fight for the first place.

Minimum amount of players: 8. If a fewer amount of players will register, the competition will be canceled.

Maximum amount of players: 20. Only serious players may apply for participating in this competition. If this pilot will be successful, we may raise this number in future editions.

An even amount of players is required for the sake of the competition. For example, if 15 players will register, the latest of them won't participate in the competition, so only 14 players will participate in the competition.

In case of 8 or 10 registered players, there will be one group of players and one stage of competition. In case of 12, 14, 16, 18 or 20 registered players, there will be two groups of players and two stages of competition (top 4 players from each group will advance to the second stage).

The players will be divided into two tiers based on their skill, past experience, records and events and in-game level and statistics. If there will be two groups of players, in each of them there will be the same amount of players from each tier. For example, if there will be 14 registered players, in Group 1 there will be 8 players (4 players from Tier 1 and 4 players from Tier 2), and in Group 2 there will be 6 players (3 players from Tier 1 and 3 players from Tier 2).

If there will be two stages of competition, in the second stage players will be divided again into two tiers.

The competition will be based on rounds, rotation and temporary teams.

In each round players from Tier 1 will be teamed with players from Tier 2, and these will be the temporary teams during the whole round.

A round is simply the concept of all the temporary teams in the same group facing each other once.

The rotation is the concept of changing the temporary teams in each round, so that every player from Tier 1 will be teamed (as a temporary team for a whole round) with every player from Tier 2 in the same group and backwards.

The number of rounds in each group will be half the number of players in the group (which is the same as the number of players in the group from each tier). The number of matches per round for each temporary team in each group will be half the number of players in the group minus 1.

For example, in a group of 10 players there will be 5 rounds and in each round a temporary team will play 4 matches. This means that each player in the group will play a total of 20 matches.

Why is that? Simply because this way we guarantee that each player will face almost every possible combination of opponent teams along with every possible teammate (except players from the same tier), and by that we can decide who is the MVP of the competition (the winner).

Remember that players from the same tier will never be teamed and the teams will be balanced as much as we can, so this is what makes this cup both interesting and challenging. This is also an opportunity for skilled players to know and try new things with unskilled players they don't use to play with and an opportunity for unskilled players to enhance their abilities while playing with skilled players.

Settings for each match:

- Duration: 2 minutes per quarter.
- AI difficulty: hard.

Player rankings will be based on the win/loss ratio and the cumulative goal difference.

Win = 2 points
Loss = 1 point
Unplayed match = 0 points (20:0 technical result)

Matches will be played on Monday, Tuesday and Friday at 21:30 CET. Match results must be reported in the dedicated forum until 20:00 CET on the next day, else the match will be considered as unplayed for all the participating players.

Note: an unplayed match is a match result given for a player, and not for a team. If a player didn't appear for a match, even if his teammate appeared, it will be considered as an unplayed match (only for the player who didn't appear for the match). So in each match result you report, don't forget to mention about missing players. Remember that after all they are still your opponents.

Usage of cheats, bug abuse (including pass bug, stuck bug and point canceling bug), playing while ping is consistently above 150 or any other unsportsmanlike behavior (like match fixing, false reporting or using bad words) is forbidden and intolerated. We are not EoS staff which is blind to these actions, and players that will be reported for this actions may be banned from the rest of the competition if we'll find it proper to do so after learning the facts.

This competition is destined for fun and sportsmanship, so fair play and honesty is a prerequisite from each participating player.

Note: this is not a registration thread. We just want to see if there are players who will to participate in this kind of competition. Are you interested?

We can also make it based on groups of 4 players, so it'll be a lot more easy to arrange that even with a bigger amount of players. It'll take only 3 matches per group (week-long stages):

1. A & B vs. C & D
2. A & C vs. B & D
3. A & D vs. B & C

And always the top 2 in each group will progress to the next stage.

If we have, for example, 37 registered players at the first stage, then 29 random players will progress automatically to the second stage, while the other 8 will fight for the last 3 places in the second stage.

These 8 players will be divided into 2 groups of 4 players. The top 2 in each group will progress to the next group, in which the top 3 will progress to the second stage.

So in this case, the first stage will take 2 weeks.

After that, it's a lot more simple. 32 become 16; 16 become 8; 8 become 4; 4 will be in the final stage. All these stages will be week-long.

What makes it (in this case) a 6 weeks long competition. Not too short and not too long, and of course not so difficult to arrange. Smile

We can also adopt this format to create an identical football competition.

Creativity and imagination are limitless.
